Figuring Out A DVI-I Splitter

July 20, 2010 – 11:24 am

DVI is a Digital Video Interface wiring, which became available in three wiring variations, analog, digital and integrated, each with their own designation indicated by the appropriate letter for the name. Understanding what each different wire is for is not difficult, if you are somewhat familiar with electronic devices. The integrated piece has the capability of communicating either older type signals or newer technology, but never both. It can be very helpful to know which device you need, based on the output cards your devices come with and the capabilities of your video display devices.

In searching for an appropriate DVI splitter, it is wise to select a cable that translates both types of information, as you will be able to use the device for many different situations. What you end up with may depend on the electronic equipment you own. Prior to purchasing a cable, you should identify the output card in your equipment. In order to make the proper choice, you should understand how a splitting device works and why. A basic explanation is that the device receives a sign and reads it to product a matching output signal. Signals are then divided in two signals traveling to two different image devices. This product is not designed to make an image larger, but is used to display two like images, which is handy for presentations or shows, where multiple display screens are used. It is often required for large spaces where many people need or wish to view the same video.

One of the advantages of using a DVI I splitter configuration is the option of using the device for either analog or digital devices. It is probably not the best solution if currently use digital devices, but is a wise choice if you currently have analog displays but intend to switch over in the near future. This type of wiring provides flexibility in video displays. Most electronic devices today are using digital technology, for its superior quality. If current output cards require integrated wiring, you should plan on replacing your items with digital devices soon.
